A Day at InteliChart: Michael McCarver, Director of Human Resources

Our people make InteliChart the best partner out there for EHR vendors. They truly are our biggest competitive advantage. Smart, talented, interesting, we could go on-and-on, but we won’t. Just know that the people at InteliChart are people you would want on your team.

Our A Day at InteliChart series pulls back the curtain on what it is really like to work at InteliChart.

Michael McCarver, Director of Human Resources

Michael is a graduate of Georgia Southern University with a degree in Business Administration. After graduating college and a few years in the US Naval Reserve, Michael went into law enforcement. He decided that after an exciting 4 years as a Police Officer, he’d take a completely different path and dive into the world of Human Resources. He spent several years honing in his HR/Recruiting skills with Bank of America and Wachovia/Wells Fargo before joining the InteliChart team in 2011. Michael and his Wife, Megan enjoy spending time with their two children, Declan and Delaney and their dogs, Bailey and Max.

Q: What brought you to InteliChart?

A: I had been in banking for about 8 years. After that, I started to look elsewhere to grow my career. As I was looking for a new place to land, I came across InteliChart. I contacted Gary Hamilton, and we had a good conversation. After that conversation, I came into the office and really enjoyed meeting everyone.

Q: What attracted to the position?

A: There had been no formal internal HR or talent acquisition prior to my arrival. I was really attracted to creating the department on my own and testing my abilities to head HR and talent acquisition. Of course, that also meant I would be able to test my ability to create process and build as my own. I had never done that. That’s a pretty rare opportunity.

Q: What attracted you to InteliChart?

A: From the get-go, I could tell there was (and still is) a lot of passion about the company, the product, and the direction. There was never and “I hope” or “we plan on being here”. It was always “we’re going here”. When I came in-person the first time, I noticed the small company atmosphere, but I could tell everyone just had passion. Our designer, CEO, receptionist, just everyone had passion for their job and for the company. When I spoke with department heads, I could tell the team they had assembled to that point was very knowledgeable. Plus, the space that InteliChart is in is medical and technical. Two titans of industry. That and the passion in Gary’s voice and the surety with which he spoke told me that InteliChart was going places.

Q: What has surprised you the most so far?

A: We are going somewhere that a lot of companies aren’t going. Other companies are focused on EHR, and their portal is just an after-thought. That’s a loss for them. Even today, they still haven’t seen value in portal. Our product is great with potential. And that’s just one of our products. We are here to truly help transform healthcare.

Q: What are some of the things you’ve worked on that you’re proud of?

A: I’m proudest of recruiting the talent that has brought product forward. I’ve been responsible for 80% of the staff here today. I’m most proud of finding the very talented people we have at InteliChart. Proud I’ve been able to convince them to come here.

Q: How would you describe the culture at InteliChart?

A: We act like we’re a start-up, but we’re not really. People are kind of laid back and passionate about their roles. At InteliChart, you’re not just an employee number. I know everyone by name. I interact with everyone. I know what is going on. The good and the bad. We are a family. Not to sound to cliché. Dysfunctional sometimes, but a family.

Q: Anything else you’d like to let people know about your experience at InteliChart?

A: The search for the best talent never ends.
